AFTERMATH REVIEW

Aftermath: The Omagh Bombing and the Families’ Pursuit of Justice
by Ruth Dudley Edwards
Vintage, £8.99

At 3.04pm on Saturday 15 August 1998, a huge bomb exploded in the centre of Omagh, a town in Northern Irleand. Twenty-nine people were killed. This book, meticulous and horrifying, tells the story of the bomb. The warnings were unclear. People were herded towards the explosion. The author moves unflinchingly closer to the moment of the blast. Shrapnel wounds are described. It is numbing. Yuo get a sense of real lives being destroyed.
